Ridge tile repairs

A ridge repair should address how the tiles are secured, as well as the visible condition of the joints along the top of the roof. For Isle of Wight homes.

A line of fresh mortar can make a ridge look tidy, but appearance alone does not establish how securely the ridge tiles are held. The repair specification needs to address the fixing method and the condition of the existing assembly.

The ridge sits at the meeting point of roof slopes. When material comes loose there, the area below should be treated cautiously until a contractor has assessed it. Ground-level photographs are useful; a close inspection is not a homeowner ladder job.

Understand the proposed method

Ridge work can involve mortar-bedded or dry-fixed details. The repair needs to address how the tiles are secured and how the ridge is weathered. When discussing the work with WWR Roofing, distinguish renewal of a damaged joint from replacement of the tiles or the ridge assembly.

For a homeowner, the useful detail is the named system and why it suits the existing roof. Ask whether the proposal retains the ridge tiles, replaces them or changes the assembly beneath. Those are different scopes and should be priced accordingly.

Check compatibility rather than the label

A proposed ridge system needs to suit the covering, pitch and existing construction. A broad product label is not enough to establish compatibility. Keep the chosen components and any ventilation requirements in the written scope.

Avoid turning a product brochure into a design yourself. Have the contractor confirm that the proposed components work together and that any ventilation role fits the roof’s overall design.

Separate repairs from optional changes

A damaged section may prompt a discussion about wider ridge work. Ask for the evidence supporting that recommendation, with photographs of the relevant areas. If an alternative system is offered, have the appearance, extent of work and associated details explained before approving it.

Keep the chosen product information with the completion photographs. Future maintenance is easier when the next contractor can identify what has actually been installed.

Our roof repairs service can be contacted about ridge defects. The roof leak investigation guide provides context where a ridge concern is accompanied by internal damp.
