A chimney that appears to lean or shows a new crack can cause understandable concern. A ground-level photograph is useful for reporting the observation, but it cannot determine structural stability or identify the right repair by itself.

Where there is suspected movement, loose material or an immediate risk, keep people away from the area below. An apparent change should not become a reason to climb onto the roof for confirmation.

Preserve the history of the observation

Note when the change was first seen and whether older photographs show the same appearance. Camera angle can affect how a stack looks, so compare images cautiously and retain the originals.

Tell WWR Roofing about previous chimney work, recent events and any related indoor changes. Distinguish what is documented from what is remembered or assumed.

Establish the assessment needed

Cracking and an apparent lean require consideration of the actual construction and condition. The appropriate structural advice may be needed before a repair scope can be settled. Repointing should not be treated as an automatic answer to every visible crack.

Any inspection has limits, especially where access is restricted. Keep those limits explicit so an initial visual review is not mistaken for confirmation about the whole stack.

Keep repair decisions tied to findings

A proposal should identify the concern, recommended work and any further advice or permissions required. If temporary precautions are needed, record their purpose separately from the permanent scope.

Our chimney work service provides the roof-level enquiry route. The guide to chimney repair or rebuilding explains how to compare the extent of work after the condition has been assessed. Immediate danger to people requires urgent emergency assistance.
