Living at home during a roof replacement
Plan entrances, parking, working areas and daily routines before replacement roof work begins at your home. For Isle of Wight homes.
Updated
A roof replacement changes how a home is used for a while, even when the work stays outside. Deliveries, scaffolding and stripping the old covering can affect the front door, driveway and rooms immediately below the roof. Thinking through ordinary daily routines makes the preparation much more useful than simply clearing a parking space.
Whether the property can remain occupied depends on the work and the conditions found. Raise that point in your WWR Roofing enquiry, particularly if access, health needs or working from home will affect the arrangements.
Keep everyday routes clear
Identify the entrances you need throughout the day and the route used by children, visitors and anyone with limited mobility. A path that looks convenient for storing materials may also be the only practical way to the back door. Establish where deliveries and waste will go before those spaces become busy.
Parking needs the same attention. Mention vehicles that must leave early, regular deliveries and any restrictions on the road. Access arrangements belong in the project discussion; they should not depend on last-minute improvisation.
Prepare the spaces below the roof
Discuss the loft and any rooms directly beneath the work. Explain where belongings, electrical equipment or delicate finishes may be affected, and agree what should be moved or protected. Do not enter an unsafe loft to clear it yourself.
Noise and vibration may interrupt calls, sleep or study. A realistic understanding of the working arrangements helps the household plan around disruption without relying on an exact timetable for every task.
Agree how updates will reach you
Keep one current contact number available and identify who can approve a change if concealed defects are found. Record any revised access or weather arrangements with the original plan.
Start with our new roofs service and describe how the property will be used during the work. The roof replacement process guide follows the wider project through to handover.
