Gutter cleaning
Overflowing gutters
Water spilling over a gutter needs a clear diagnosis. Record where it happens before assuming cleaning or replacement will solve it. For Isle of Wight homes.
Updated
Water spilling over a gutter is easy to notice and easy to mislabel. A blockage, a leaking connection and a system that needs a design review do not necessarily require the same work.
The most useful homeowner observation is the location of the water. A short description—at a corner, below an outlet or along a particular run—gives the contractor a better starting point than a general report that the gutters are bad.
Describe what happens during rain
Observe from the ground and keep clear of falling debris. Note whether the problem is repeated and whether anything has changed since it began, such as building work or recent cleaning. A photograph should show the wider section as well as the point of overflow.
When reporting the problem to WWR Roofing, distinguish water spilling over the edge from water escaping at a joint. Include the affected elevation and whether the same area has been cleaned before. A clear description helps separate debris removal from a possible repair.
Let the finding determine the work
If cleaning is recommended, establish which channels, outlets and downpipes are included. If a component repair is proposed, request its location and the reason for replacement. If capacity is questioned, the assessment should explain how the roof and drainage arrangement have been considered.
Do not assume a larger-looking gutter is necessarily the answer. Equally, repeated cleaning should not be presented as a complete response if the channel is already clear and the problem remains.
Confirm the end point
Ask what can be checked during the visit and what needs observation during later rainfall. Keep any remaining issue on the record so it does not vanish behind a general note saying the gutters were cleaned.
Report recurrence with the date and location. The value of that record is practical: it lets the next discussion begin with the work already completed rather than repeat the original enquiry.
Our gutter cleaning page covers maintenance enquiries, while fascias, soffits and guttering covers the wider roofline. The companion guide to replacement guttering explains what a complete replacement proposal should address.
