Leadwork

Sealant on lead flashing

Repeated surface patches need a clear account of the original defect, the materials involved and the intended permanent repair. For Isle of Wight homes.

A bead of sealant around flashing can look like a small, convenient response to a leak. Its presence does not establish what failed beneath it, whether the material suits the detail or how long the measure was intended to remain.

When a patched area leaks again, the repair history becomes useful evidence. Repeating the same surface treatment without an explained finding can make the underlying arrangement harder to understand.

Record the earlier intervention

Tell WWR Roofing when the patch was applied, which symptom prompted it and whether the leak changed afterwards. Keep any invoice or photographs that describe the original work. Where the material is unknown, leave that uncertainty explicit.

Do not scrape, peel or test the patch yourself at roof level. The detail may need examination as part of a planned assessment with suitable access.

Clarify the purpose of the proposed work

A temporary weathering measure and a permanent repair are different scopes. The recommendation should identify which is being offered and explain any follow-up needed.

Where renewal is advised, establish how existing patches will be handled and what surrounding lead, covering or masonry is included. A neat new surface should not replace the explanation of the defect being addressed.

Keep the finished record specific

Retain the location, finding and description of completed work. If some uncertainty remains, record the next step instead of treating the absence of an immediate drip as confirmation about the whole junction.

Our leadwork page provides the enquiry route. The guide to split leadwork explains why the surrounding arrangement matters when the visible defect is more than a failed surface seal.
