Roof moss removal

Roof coatings and lifespan claims

A new colour does not establish a new service life. Separate cosmetic changes, product evidence and the repairs a roof actually needs. For Isle of Wight homes.

A roof coating can be marketed with a striking transformation photograph and a promise of extra years of life. The homeowner’s task is to separate a visible change from evidence about performance.

Start with the condition of the existing covering and the problem the proposed work is intended to solve. A treatment should have a clear purpose, and any repair should remain identifiable within the quotation.

Ask for the claim in writing

A change in colour is visible immediately; claims about extra service life or thermal performance need separate evidence. When contacting WWR Roofing about moss or a roof defect, describe the problem you need resolved. Keep any proposed treatment connected to that problem, with its purpose and limits explained.

A brochure for a different product, a customer photograph or a general statement about coatings is not the same evidence. Keep the product name and supporting documents with the proposal so that the claim can be checked consistently.

Keep cleaning, coating and repair separate

A quotation that combines all three in a single line is difficult to assess. Ask for the preparation method, the coating proposed and the repairs identified to be described individually. Clarify the outcome if the roof assessment shows that a coating is unsuitable.

Do not assume an attractive finish resolves an existing leak. The recommendation should explain how the diagnosed defect is addressed and what the coating contributes, if anything, to that work.

Read the limitations

Request the warranty terms before paying, including exclusions, maintenance requirements and the organisation responsible for a claim. A statement about how long a product might last is different from a contractual undertaking to put a defect right.

A homeowner should have time to read the paperwork and compare the scope. There is little value in accepting a major treatment because the sales discussion makes ordinary weathering sound like an immediate crisis.

For a measured assessment, use our roof moss removal page. Where water entry or damaged tiles are the concern, the relevant starting point is roof repairs, with cleaning considered only in relation to the condition found.
