Roof moss removal

Roof appearance after moss removal

Cleaning exposes the condition and colour of an older roof. Agree the intended result without assuming the covering will look new. For Isle of Wight homes.

Removing moss changes what is visible on a roof, but it does not turn an older covering into a new one. Weathering, earlier repairs and differences between roof sections may become easier to see once surface growth is reduced.

That makes the intended result worth discussing before work begins. A maintenance outcome and a uniform new appearance are different expectations.

Allow for the roof’s history

An existing covering may include replacement tiles, sheltered sections and areas exposed to different conditions. A photograph taken before cleaning cannot always show the finished colour beneath the growth.

When contacting WWR Roofing, explain whether the concern is drainage, accumulated debris or appearance. The proposal should connect the method and scope with that purpose, with any limits made clear.

Keep newly visible defects separate

A damaged tile or an old patch may become more obvious after cleaning. That observation needs to be assessed on its own terms. It does not automatically establish when the defect arose or that extensive replacement is required.

Where a repair is recommended, record its location, the finding and the proposed work separately from the cleaning job. This keeps the maintenance record understandable and avoids a broad instruction to undertake unspecified extras.

Compare the result fairly

Use photographs from similar viewpoints and lighting where practical. Strong differences in sunshine, wetness or camera exposure can exaggerate an apparent colour change. The completion record should also address the agreed gutters, outlets and debris removal.
